Who won the first Hell in a Cell match in WWE history at Badd Blood 1997?

The story behind the answer

Shawn Michaels won the first Hell in a Cell match in WWE history at Badd Blood 1997.

The match took place on October 5, 1997, at the Kiel Center in St. Louis. Michaels defeated The Undertaker after both wrestlers fought inside and around the large steel structure. The contest lasted more than 25 minutes and became one of WWE's defining specialty matches.

The bout also introduced Kane, who debuted by tearing open the cell door and attacking The Undertaker. Michaels then won after Kane's interference allowed him to hit The Undertaker with the Sweet Chin Music.

The Undertaker is a common mistaken answer because he became strongly associated with the match type and competed in many later Hell in a Cell bouts. He did not win the inaugural contest. The structure later became an annual WWE event concept and received its own pay-per-view in 2009.
