Who won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2019?

The story behind the answer

Ryan O'Reilly won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2019 as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He earned the award after leading the St. Louis Blues to their first Stanley Cup championship, defeating the Boston Bruins in seven games.

O'Reilly was especially influential in the Final, recording eight points in the seven-game series. His consistency helped the Blues overcome a difficult start to the season: St. Louis was last in the NHL standings in January before changing coaches and surging into the playoffs.

The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association after the Stanley Cup Final. It usually goes to a player from the championship team, although a player on the losing team can win it. O'Reilly became the first Blues player to receive the trophy. Jordan Binnington, another key St. Louis player, won the Conn Smythe vote from some observers but was not the official recipient.
