Bill Hader won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2018 Emmy Awards for playing Barry Berkman in HBO’s Barry. The award recognized his performance in the show’s first season.
The 2018 ceremony was the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards. Hader’s fellow nominees included Anthony Anderson for Black-ish, Ted Danson for The Good Place, Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm, Donald Glover for Atlanta, and William H. Macy for Shameless.
Barry, created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, follows a former Marine who works as a hitman and unexpectedly becomes interested in acting. The series mixes dark crime storytelling with comedy, giving Hader room to play Barry’s emotional confusion and violent past. Hader also received Emmy recognition for directing and writing the series, but this particular category honored his lead acting performance.
