Cinco Paul won both Best Book and Best Original Score for Schmigadoon! at the 2026 Tony Awards.
Paul was credited as the book writer and as the creator of the show’s music and lyrics. His two individual victories were part of Schmigadoon!’s four-award haul, which also included Best Musical and Best Orchestrations.
The double win highlights the distinction between a musical’s book and score. The book supplies the dialogue and dramatic structure, while the score consists of the songs and related musical material. Tony voters can honor the same creator in both fields when one artist contributes substantially to each.
Paul’s other score competitors included Steve Bargonetti, Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, The Rescues, and Caroline Shaw. The 2026 ceremony was the 79th presentation of the Tony Awards and recognized Broadway’s 2025–26 season.
