Who wears #19 for the 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks

The story behind the answer

Jonathan Toews wore No. 19 for the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2018–19 NHL season. The longtime center and captain had used that number throughout his Blackhawks career, making it a recognizable part of his identity in Chicago.

Toews was selected by the Blackhawks with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and became captain in 2008 at age 20. He helped lead Chicago to Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015. In the 2018–19 regular season, he recorded 35 goals and 46 assists for 81 points, one of the strongest offensive seasons of his career.

No. 19 can occasionally cause confusion because hockey jersey numbers identify players, while roster listings may also show a player’s position or lineup status. In Chicago’s 2018–19 roster, No. 19 belonged to Toews, a center—not to Patrick Kane, who wore No. 88.

Toews remained with the Blackhawks through the 2022–23 season. He was known both for elite two-way play and for taking important faceoffs in high-pressure situations.
