Who was the Wilson brothers' father and the band's original manager?
Answer
Murry Wilson
Answer
Murry Wilson
Murry Wilson was the Wilson brothers’ father and the Beach Boys’ original manager.
Wilson was the father of Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson. His musical interests helped shape the family’s early direction, while Brian’s songwriting and arranging supplied much of the group’s developing sound. Murry also drew on his experience as a songwriter, publisher, and record producer as the young band began making records.
After the Beach Boys formed in 1961, Murry became their first manager. He helped organize their early business affairs and produced some early recordings, including “409” and “Surfin’ Safari.” In 1962, he and Brian founded Sea of Tunes, the publishing company that handled much of the band’s early catalog.
Murry’s management was ultimately short-lived. The band dismissed him in 1964 after tensions over his demanding and intrusive involvement. The other options are connected to the group’s early career, but Chuck Britz was an engineer, Russ Regan was a record promoter, and Hite Morgan was a producer associated with the first recordings.
