Who was the showrunner of the 2005 revival of Doctor Who?
Answer
Russell T Davies
Answer
Russell T Davies
Russell T Davies was the showrunner of the 2005 revival of Doctor Who. He served as the programme’s head writer and executive producer from its return in 2005 through 2010.
Davies helped bring Doctor Who back after a 16-year absence from regular television production. Working with producer Julie Gardner and the BBC, he shaped the revival around Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor and Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler, making the series accessible to new viewers while retaining elements such as the TARDIS and Daleks.
His era also included David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and launched the spin-offs Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Davies wrote or co-wrote many major episodes, including “Rose,” “The Parting of the Ways,” “Bad Wolf,” and “The End of Time.”
A common mix-up is Steven Moffat, who became showrunner after Davies left in 2010. Davies later returned for Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary specials and a new era beginning in 2023.
