Who was the first WWF Women's Champion under the modern title introduced in 1998?

The story behind the answer

Jacqueline was the first WWF Women’s Champion under the modern championship lineage introduced in 1998.

She won the title on September 21, 1998, defeating Sable on an episode of Raw in New York City. The championship had been inactive since 1995, when Debrah Miceli, known in WWF as Alundra Blayze, left the company and discarded the belt on WCW television.

Jacqueline’s reign lasted only a few months, but it marked the restoration of a women’s singles championship in WWF. She was an experienced wrestler and had already become one of the company’s most prominent female performers.

The title later became known as the WWE Women’s Championship. It should not be confused with the separate Divas Championship introduced in 2008 or the current WWE Women’s Championship established in 2016.
