Who was the first woman to serve as a Dragon on the British television show Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was the first woman to serve as a Dragon on the British television show Dragons' Den.

Elnaugh joined the original panel when the BBC series began in 2005. She was known for building Red Letter Days, a company selling experience gifts, before appearing as an investor on the programme.

Her tenure was relatively brief compared with some later Dragons, but her place in the show's history is important because she was the first female investor on the British panel. Deborah Meaden joined later and became the longest-serving female Dragon, which is a different distinction.

The show has since featured many women investors, including Meaden, Kelly Hoppen, Jenny Campbell and Sara Davies. Those later appearances should not be confused with Elnaugh's first appearance in the role.
