Who was the first woman to appear as an original investor on the British television series Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was the first woman to appear as an original investor on the British television series Dragon's Den.

Elnaugh joined the original investor panel when the programme launched in 2005. She was known for building Red Letter Days, a gift-experience company that sold vouchers for activities and special experiences.

Her business career made her a natural fit for a programme centred on entrepreneurship, valuation and investment. She remained part of the early Dragon lineup before leaving the series after its initial run.

Deborah Meaden is often associated most strongly with the show's female Dragons because of her long tenure and continuing visibility, but she was not the first woman on the original panel. Rachel Elnaugh's place belongs to the launch-era lineup.
