Who was the first presenter of the British television series Dragon's Den to become its regular long-term host?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis became the regular long-term host of the British television series Dragon's Den after the first series.

Adrian Chiles presented the opening series in 2005. Davis then took over from series 2 and became the presenter most closely associated with the programme's established early run. His background in economics and broadcasting suited a show built around business plans, valuations, investment offers and negotiation.

The presenter acts as the audience's guide, but does not decide whether a pitch receives funding. That decision belongs to the Dragons, who assess the proposal and may make individual or joint offers. A televised agreement can also be subject to later due diligence, so an on-screen handshake is not identical to a completed investment.

Davis's tenure is a useful point of reference when distinguishing the first-series host from the presenter remembered by many long-time viewers.
