Who was the first presenter of the British television programme Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Adrian Chiles was the first presenter of the British television programme Dragon's Den.

Chiles hosted the programme when it launched on BBC Two in January 2005 and continued through its first two series. He introduced the entrepreneurs, provided links between the pitches and helped explain the financial stakes without taking part in the investors' decisions.

Before Dragon's Den, Chiles was known for BBC radio and television work, especially programmes connected with business, football and current affairs. His conversational style suited the show's combination of serious commercial questions and unscripted studio tension.

Evan Davis succeeded Chiles from the third series, which is why viewers who remember the programme's long-running format may associate Davis more strongly with it. The presenter and the dragons have different roles: the presenter guides the broadcast, while the investors decide whether to make offers.
