Who was the first Olympic champion in women’s ski jumping?
Answer
Carina Vogt
Answer
Carina Vogt
Carina Vogt was the first Olympic champion in women’s ski jumping.
The German jumper won the normal-hill event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Women’s ski jumping had been added to the Olympic program for those Games after years of growth in international competition.
Vogt won ahead of Austria’s Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and France’s Coline Mattel. Her victory gave her a permanent place in ski-jumping history as the first woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport.
Sara Takanashi is a major women’s ski-jumping champion, but she did not win the inaugural Olympic title. Maren Lundby became Olympic champion at the next Games, in PyeongChang in 2018.
