Who was the first female investor on the BBC business show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was the first female investor on the BBC business show Dragon's Den.

Elnaugh joined the original Dragon's Den panel when the British series began in 2005. Her business background came from Red Letter Days, a gift-experience company she co-founded with her husband, Simon Elnaugh, in 1989.

She was one of the original investors alongside Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. Her tenure ended after the first series, and Deborah Meaden subsequently became the programme's better-known long-serving female Dragon.

A common mix-up is to name Meaden because she became closely identified with the show and joined the panel soon after the original series. The question concerns the first woman to serve as an investor, rather than the longest-serving female investor.
