Who was the father of Elrond?
Answer
Eärendil
Answer
Eärendil
The father of Elrond was Eärendil, the famous mariner of Tolkien’s First Age. Eärendil was a Half-elven hero whose voyage to the Undying Lands helped bring the Valar’s aid against Morgoth.
Eärendil was the son of Tuor, a Man, and Idril Celebrindal, an Elf of Gondolin. He later married Elwing, who was also descended from both Elves and Men. Their twin sons were Elrond and Elros, giving Elrond one of the most important mixed ancestries in Middle-earth.
Carrying a Silmaril on his brow, Eärendil sailed the ship Vingilot across the sea to Aman. The Valar answered his plea and eventually placed him in the sky as a star, where he became a symbol of hope. Frodo sees that light reflected in Galadriel’s phial.
Elrond and Elros were later offered a choice between the fates of Elves and Men. Elrond chose the Elven path, while Elros became the first king of Númenor. This is why Elrond is often called Elrond Peredhel, or Elrond the Half-elven.
