Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and influential art dealer was Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was a photographer, modern-art promoter, gallery owner, and editor who helped introduce European and American modernism to wider audiences in the United States. He first exhibited O'Keeffe's work in 1916 at his gallery, 291, after a friend showed him some of her abstract charcoal drawings without her permission.
O'Keeffe and Stieglitz married in 1924. Their partnership connected O'Keeffe to a major New York art circle, but their artistic reputations were not identical: Stieglitz was an important photographer and advocate, while O'Keeffe became known for her own distinctive paintings of flowers, bones, buildings, and landscapes.
Stieglitz also made hundreds of photographs of O'Keeffe over many years. Their relationship is often discussed in biographies, but O'Keeffe's career continued independently after his death in 1946. She eventually moved permanently to New Mexico, where her work took a new geographic and visual direction.
