Who was George H. W. Bush's Vice President?
Answer
Dan Quayle
Answer
Dan Quayle
Dan Quayle was George H. W. Bush’s vice president. Quayle served as the 44th vice president of the United States from January 20, 1989, to January 20, 1993, during Bush’s single presidential term.
Before the 1988 election, Bush selected Quayle, then a Republican senator from Indiana, as his running mate. The Bush–Quayle ticket defeated Democratic nominees Michael Dukakis and Lloyd Bentsen. Quayle had previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, representing Indiana.
Quayle’s vice presidency is often remembered for his youth—he was 41 when he took office—and for highly publicized verbal gaffes, including the famous “potatoe” spelling incident. He also chaired the National Space Council and traveled extensively as part of the administration’s foreign-policy work. Bush and Quayle ran for re-election in 1992 but lost to Bill Clinton and Al Gore, who succeeded them in 1993.
