Who was C.S. Lewis’s older brother?
Answer
Warren Lewis
Answer
Warren Lewis
C.S. Lewis’s older brother was Warren Lewis. Warren, often called Warnie, was born in 1895, three years before his famous younger brother.
The brothers shared a lifelong relationship and many interests, especially history and imaginative literature. Warren served in the British Army and later became a historian. After retiring from military service, he lived near C.S. Lewis in Oxford and helped preserve records of their family and intellectual circle.
Warren’s diaries are an important source for biographers studying C.S. Lewis. They document domestic routines, visitors, friendships, and the development of Lewis’s writing. Warren also edited and published material connected with his brother after Lewis’s death.
Warren is sometimes mistaken for a literary collaborator in the same sense as J.R.R. Tolkien, but he was primarily Lewis’s brother, companion, and historical chronicler. Tolkien was Lewis’s fellow Oxford scholar and friend, not a member of the Lewis family.
