Who voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars movie series?

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars movie series.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s best friend. His speech, jokes, optimism, and loyalty make him one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters. Larry the Cable Guy, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, supplied Mater’s distinctive voice in the films.

Mater appears prominently in Cars, Cars 2, and Cars 3. He also headlines the short-form series Mater’s Tall Tales, which expands the character’s comic stories and frequently plays with whether his wild adventures really happened.

The performer is sometimes identified only by his stage name, but the credited voice is Larry the Cable Guy. Mater’s character name is also a pun on “tow mater,” a pronunciation of “tomato,” matching the vehicle’s rural American humor and the series’ playful naming style.
