Who voiced the villain Charles Muntz?

The story behind the answer

Christopher Plummer voiced the villain Charles Muntz in Up.

Muntz is an elderly explorer and Carl Fredricksen’s childhood hero. He becomes an antagonist after returning from South America with evidence of a giant bird that scientists dismiss as a fraud. Determined to restore his reputation, Muntz spends years hunting for a living specimen.

Plummer’s performance gives Muntz a polished, charismatic voice that gradually turns threatening as his obsession is revealed. Muntz commands a pack of dogs and travels aboard a large airship, presenting himself as an accomplished adventurer while concealing how far his fixation has taken him.

A frequent mix-up is confusing Plummer with Up’s other notable performers. Ed Asner voiced Carl, Bob Peterson voiced Dug, and John Ratzenberger voiced construction foreman Tom. Plummer’s role as Muntz is distinct from all three.
