Who voiced the droid IG-11 in The Mandalorian? Taika Waititi provided the voice of IG-11.
IG-11 is an assassin and bounty-hunter droid introduced in the series premiere. He initially works to capture and kill Grogu, placing him in conflict with Din Djarin. After Djarin destroys him, the Ugnaught Kuiil recovers the droid’s remains, repairs him, and changes his programming.
That reprogramming creates one of the show’s clearest character reversals. IG-11 becomes a nurse and protector rather than a relentless killer, eventually sacrificing himself to help Djarin, Grogu, and their allies escape Nevarro. His later rebuilds include IG-12, a controllable exoskeleton used by Grogu, and a new version of IG-11 who serves as Nevarro’s marshal.
Waititi designed the voice to sound unemotional but not entirely lifeless, describing the concept as somewhere between Siri and HAL 9000. He also directed “Chapter 8: Redemption,” the first-season finale featuring IG-11’s sacrifice. A frequent mistake is identifying IG-11 as IG-88, another Star Wars assassin droid with a similar design. Rio Hackford supplied IG-11’s physical performance and motion capture, but Waititi supplied the voice.
