Who voiced King Triton in The Little Mermaid?
Answer
Kenneth Mars
Answer
Kenneth Mars
Kenneth Mars voiced King Triton in The Little Mermaid (1989). Mars supplied the voice for Ariel’s strict, powerful father and ruler of Atlantica.
Triton is introduced as a commanding undersea king who distrusts humans and strongly objects to Ariel’s fascination with the surface world. His conflict with Ariel drives much of the story, especially after he discovers her hidden collection of human objects and destroys it.
Mars was an experienced character actor whose credits included Disney’s The Jungle Book, Star Wars, Young Frankenstein, and later The Little Mermaid television projects. His deep, authoritative delivery helped define Triton’s personality, while Pat Carroll provided the contrasting voice of Ursula.
A common mix-up is confusing Mars with Samuel E. Wright, who voiced Sebastian, or Christopher Daniel Barnes, who voiced Prince Eric. Triton’s voice belongs to Mars in the original 1989 animated film.
