Besides “Under the Sea,” the other song from The Little Mermaid nominated for an Academy Award was “Kiss the Girl.”
Both songs were written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman for Disney’s 1989 animated musical. “Under the Sea,” performed by Sebastian, won the Oscar for Best Original Song. “Kiss the Girl,” also performed by Sebastian, was nominated in the same category but lost to its fellow song from the film.
