Who sold Joan of Arc to the English after her capture?

The story behind the answer

John of Luxembourg sold Joan of Arc to the English after her capture.

John of Luxembourg, Lord of Beauvoir, was a Burgundian nobleman who held Joan after she was captured near Compiègne in 1430. The Burgundians were allied with the English during the civil and international conflict surrounding the French succession.

Joan was not captured directly by the English. She was first taken by a Burgundian soldier during the fighting and then remained in Burgundian custody. John of Luxembourg eventually transferred her to the English for a payment of 10,000 livres.

The English authorities then placed Joan before an ecclesiastical court in Rouen. This distinction between capture, custody, and sale is important because simplified accounts sometimes say that England captured Joan at Compiègne. The immediate captors were Burgundian forces, while the English acquired her afterward.
