Who set pole position for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Kévin Estre set pole position for the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driving Porsche Penske Motorsport’s Porsche 963, Estre recorded the fastest overall Hypercar lap in the Hyperpole session and placed his car at the front of the grid for the 92nd running of the race.

Estre shared the number 6 Porsche 963 with André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor. Hyperpole is the final qualifying shootout used to determine the leading grid positions, and it is separate from the earlier qualifying sessions that decide which cars advance. Estre’s pole showed the pace of Porsche’s new-generation Hypercar package on the Circuit de la Sarthe’s long straights and demanding corners.

Pole position did not become victory. The 2024 overall win went to Ferrari’s number 50 499P, driven by Nicklas Nielsen, Miguel Molina and Antonio Fuoco. Alex Lynn, Kamui Kobayashi and Fuoco were therefore plausible distractors: all were prominent Hypercar drivers, but none set the 2024 Le Mans pole.
