Tom Kristensen, the record holder for Le Mans overall wins, comes from Denmark.
Born in Hobro, Denmark, in 1967, Kristensen became one of endurance racing’s most successful drivers. His nine overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans are a record, earning him the nickname “Mr. Le Mans.” Six of those wins came consecutively from 2000 through 2005.
Kristensen’s victories were achieved with several manufacturers. He won in a Porsche prototype in 1997, then became closely associated with Audi’s dominant Le Mans program. His 2003 victory came with Bentley, making his record especially notable for spanning different teams and cars.
A common mix-up is confusing Kristensen with drivers from neighboring Scandinavian countries, particularly Sweden or Norway. His nationality is Danish, and he was later appointed a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog, one of Denmark’s national honors.
