Who scored the 'Golden Goal' for Canada in the 2010 Olympic men's hockey final?
Answer
Sidney Crosby
Answer
Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby scored Canada's “Golden Goal” in the 2010 Olympic men's hockey final. His overtime goal gave Canada a 3–2 victory over the United States and secured the host nation a gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
The final was tied 2–2 after regulation. Canada controlled much of the early game and took a 2–0 lead through goals by Jonathan Toews and Corey Perry, but the United States fought back with goals from Ryan Kesler and Zach Parise. With less than a minute remaining in the third period, Parise scored to force overtime.
In overtime, Crosby collected a pass from Jarome Iginla and fired a wrist shot past American goaltender Ryan Miller. The goal became one of the most famous moments in Canadian sports history. The nickname distinguishes it from Canada’s earlier gold-medal clinching goal in the women's final, scored by Marie-Philip Poulin.
