Who scored in every match for Brazil at the 1970 FIFA World Cup?
Answer
Jairzinho
Answer
Jairzinho
Jairzinho scored in every match for Brazil at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, making him the only player to achieve that feat in a single tournament.
Brazil played six matches in Mexico: group-stage games against Czechoslovakia, England and Romania, followed by knockout victories over Peru, Uruguay and Italy. Jairzinho scored in all six matches, finishing with seven goals as Brazil won the trophy.
His scoring run began with two goals against Czechoslovakia and included the winning goal against England. He also scored against Peru, Uruguay and Italy in the knockout stage. Jairzinho’s goal in the final was Brazil’s third in a 4–1 victory over Italy at the Estadio Azteca.
The record is sometimes confused with tournament Golden Boot records. Gerd Müller scored ten goals in 1970, while Jairzinho’s seven goals ranked him second. Pelé scored four goals, but he contributed assists and became the first player to win three World Cup titles. Brazil’s victory also secured the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently under the rules then in effect.
