Who redesigned McDonald's Golden Arches into the corporate logo used from 1962?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler redesigned McDonald's Golden Arches into the corporate logo introduced in 1962.

The original arches were architectural elements on McDonald's restaurant buildings. Schindler transformed the two separate yellow structures into a unified graphic mark by overlapping their shapes to create the familiar M-like emblem. This change made the arches useful on signs, packaging, advertisements, and other brand materials.

The logo helped shift McDonald's identity from an individual roadside restaurant design to a consistent national brand. Its simple form was easy to recognize at a distance and easy to reproduce in many sizes and materials.

People sometimes credit Stanley Meston with the entire logo. Meston designed the original building arches in 1952, while Schindler created the later graphic version. The Golden Arches name also became a widely used nickname for McDonald's itself, especially in discussions of the company's expansion.
