Who received the first known Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto?
Answer
Hal Finney
Answer
Hal Finney
Hal Finney received the first known Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto.
Finney was a computer scientist, cryptographer, and early cypherpunk who lived in California. He downloaded and ran Bitcoin software soon after its release. On 12 January 2009, Nakamoto sent Finney 10 bitcoins in transaction block 170, making it the first recorded Bitcoin transfer between two different people.
The event is sometimes confused with the genesis block. The genesis block was created by Nakamoto and contains a block reward, but that reward is not treated as an ordinary spendable transfer. Finney’s transaction demonstrated that the network could move bitcoin from one user to another. Finney later described himself as the recipient of the first Bitcoin transaction, but he denied being Nakamoto. He died in 2014 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and was cryopreserved by Alcor Life Extension Foundation.
