Who provides the English voice of Solid Snake in the original Metal Gear Solid?

David Hayter provides the English voice of Solid Snake in the original Metal Gear Solid.

Hayter voiced Solid Snake in the English release of Metal Gear Solid, giving the character his recognizable low, gravelly delivery. He also wrote or co-wrote English scripts for several entries in the series, making his contribution extend beyond performance.

The 1998 game was one of the PlayStation era’s most heavily localized cinematic titles. Its voice cast helped make Codec conversations and cutscenes accessible to a large international audience. Hayter returned as Snake in later games, including Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Kiefer Sutherland voiced Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is why the two actors are sometimes mixed up. Sutherland’s casting belongs to a later production and does not change Hayter’s role in the original game.
