Who provides Scrat’s voice in the 2002 film Ice Age?

The story behind the answer

Chris Wedge provides Scrat’s voice in the 2002 film Ice Age.

Scrat is a mostly silent comic character whose fixation on an acorn repeatedly causes accidents and interruptions. Wedge supplied the character’s vocalizations while also directing the film, making Scrat one of the rare major animated characters voiced by the movie’s director.

Scrat was created as a visual comedy figure rather than as a central participant in the main human-and-animal storyline. His short, frantic scenes became recurring interludes throughout the Ice Age series and later appeared in promotional shorts and related media.

The lead trio is voiced by Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, and Denis Leary as Diego. Those actors are therefore often incorrectly named as Scrat’s voice performer.
