Who provided the voice of Mater in Pixar’s Cars movies?

Larry the Cable Guy provided the voice of Mater in Pixar’s Cars movies.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. His comic personality, distinctive Southern-style delivery, and frequent malapropisms make him one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.

The character is voiced by American comedian and actor Daniel Lawrence Whitney, whose stage name is Larry the Cable Guy. The performance helped make Mater central to the series rather than merely a supporting character. Mater has major roles in Cars, Cars 2, and Cars 3, as well as the television series Mater’s Tall Tales.

A common mix-up is confusing Mater’s voice actor with Owen Wilson, who voices Lightning McQueen, or John Ratzenberger, who voices Mack. Mater’s name is also a pun on “tomato,” matching the film’s playful use of vehicle-related wordplay and rural Americana.
