Cars 2 is the Pixar Cars film that takes place partly in London and Tokyo.
The 2011 sequel expands the series from Radiator Springs and American racing into an international story. Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix, with races held in Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. Mater becomes involved in Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell's espionage investigation at the same time.
Tokyo and London provide distinct visual settings, including the Tokyo race circuit and London's streets near major landmarks. The film's structure combines sports competition with spy-movie elements, making it notably different from the road-trip and small-town focus of the first Cars.
Cars is centered mainly on the American Route 66 setting of Radiator Springs, while Cars 3 returns to McQueen's racing career and training in the United States. Planes is a separate DisneyToon Studios franchise, not one of Pixar's Cars feature films.
