Who provided the voice for the character Q?
Answer
John de Lancie
Answer
John de Lancie
John de Lancie provided the voice and performance for the character Q.
Q is an immensely powerful member of the extra-dimensional Q continuum, a species capable of manipulating time, space, matter, and reality. He first appears in The Next Generation pilot, “Encounter at Farpoint,” where he places humanity on trial and becomes a recurring nuisance, guide, and philosophical challenger to Captain Picard.
De Lancie's performance made Q memorable by combining theatrical charm, sarcasm, mischief, and genuine menace. Although Q often behaves like a cosmic trickster, his encounters with the Enterprise crew frequently test ideas about human progress, morality, responsibility, and the limits of knowledge.
The answer is sometimes confused with Patrick Stewart because Q regularly confronts Picard, or with Brent Spiner because Q interacts with Data. Neither actor played Q. De Lancie reprised the role in Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Lower Decks, Picard, and later Star Trek productions.
