Jodi Benson provided Ariel's speaking and singing voice in Disney's 1989 animated The Little Mermaid.
Benson voiced Ariel throughout the film, including the character's dialogue and songs such as “Part of Your World.” Her performance helped define Ariel's curious, determined personality and made the character one of Disney animation's most recognizable protagonists.
Ariel's dialogue and singing were recorded as part of the film's production, while the animation was created by Disney artists. The distinction matters because animated characters can involve several performers, but Benson supplied both of Ariel's principal vocal performances in the original movie.
Benson later returned to the role in Disney projects connected with Ariel. The 2023 live-action adaptation used Halle Bailey as Ariel, so Benson's association specifically belongs to the original animated film and its related productions.
