Ariel’s daughter in Disney’s 2000 film The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea is named Melody.
Melody is the child of Ariel and Prince Eric. The sequel centers on her curiosity about the ocean and her connection to her mother’s mermaid heritage. To protect Melody from Ursula’s sister Morgana, Ariel initially keeps the underwater world and its dangers away from her daughter.
The story reverses part of the original film’s family conflict. In the 1989 movie, Ariel wants to leave the sea for the human world; in the sequel, Melody is drawn toward the sea despite being raised on land. Jodi Benson returned as Ariel, while Tara Strong provided Melody’s voice. The film was released directly to video in 2000 rather than receiving a major theatrical release.
