Which Broadway theater hosted the original 2008 New York run of Disney’s musical The Little Mermaid?

The story behind the answer

The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre hosted the original 2008 New York run of Disney’s musical The Little Mermaid.

The stage musical opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on January 10, 2008. It was adapted from Disney’s 1989 animated film and incorporated music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a book by Doug Wright.

The production followed an earlier world premiere in Denver in 2007 before moving to New York. Sierra Boggess originated the Broadway role of Ariel, with Sean Palmer as Prince Eric and Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula in the initial Broadway cast.

The theater is sometimes confused with venues associated with other Disney Broadway productions. The New Amsterdam Theatre hosted The Lion King, while the Minskoff Theatre later became strongly associated with that production’s long-running home.
