Gus Dudgeon produced most of Elton John's classic albums during the 1970s.

Dudgeon was a prominent British record producer who worked closely with John and lyricist Bernie Taupin during the period when John's international career expanded dramatically. His production credits include Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection, Madman Across the Water, Honky Château, Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou, and Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.

His production style helped balance John's piano-led performances with orchestral arrangements, layered backing vocals, and a powerful rhythm section. Dudgeon also worked with David Bowie and many other major British artists.

He remained associated with John for much of the decade, although John later worked with different producers. Gus Dudgeon died in a car accident in 2002, aged 59.
