Elton John’s 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a two-disc album.
The release was issued as a double album by DJM Records in October 1973. Its unusually expansive format allowed John and lyricist Bernie Taupin to combine major singles with deeper album tracks across two records.
The album includes “Candle in the Wind,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” and its title track. Because several of those songs became famous individually, listeners sometimes remember the record primarily as a singles collection rather than as a two-disc studio set.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road became one of John’s best-known albums and was recorded at Château d’Hérouville in France. It reached number one in several countries and is widely regarded as a central release of his 1970s peak.
