Who produced Green Day’s 1994 album Dookie?

The story behind the answer

Rob Cavallo produced Green Day’s 1994 album Dookie. Cavallo worked with the band and engineer Jerry Finn on the record, which became Green Day’s major-label breakthrough after their earlier releases on Lookout! Records.

Dookie was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. Its tight songs, distorted guitars, and accessible melodies helped introduce a new generation of listeners to punk-influenced rock. Singles including “Longview,” “Basket Case,” and “When I Come Around” became major radio hits.

The album’s producer is sometimes confused with Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana’s Nevermind, or with later Green Day collaborators. Cavallo continued working with Green Day on several subsequent projects and became closely associated with the band’s mainstream success.
