Which punk band released the influential 1988 album Suffer?
Answer
Bad Religion
Answer
Bad Religion
Bad Religion released the influential 1988 punk album Suffer.
Suffer was released on September 8, 1988, by Epitaph Records and is Bad Religion’s third studio album. The band recorded it at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood, with the group itself credited as producer.
The album followed a difficult period for Bad Religion, including a temporary hiatus. The band reunited with most of its original members and recorded Suffer in only eight days. Its fast songs, melodic hooks, and politically charged writing helped define melodic hardcore.
Suffer did not appear on the Billboard 200, but it became highly influential within the independent punk scene. It is sometimes confused with No Control, Bad Religion’s fourth album, which followed in 1989. Songs such as “You Are the Government” and “Do What You Want” became important parts of the band’s live repertoire.
