Who presented the UK television programme Dragons' Den from its launch in 2005 until 2013?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the UK television programme Dragons' Den from its launch in 2005 until 2013.

Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who became familiar to television audiences through BBC business and current-affairs programmes. His role on Dragons' Den was to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the pitch process and guide viewers through negotiations with the investors.

He was the programme's first regular presenter in the United Kingdom. Davis left the presenting role in 2013 and was succeeded by broadcasters including Nick Hewer and later various other hosts. The investors, rather than the presenter, are the people formally known as the Dragons.

A common mix-up is to identify one of the investors as the original host. Davis did not appear as a Dragon; his job was to chair the studio presentation and keep the pitch moving.
