Evan Davis presented the first eight series of the BBC television programme Dragons' Den.
Davis, a British economist, journalist and broadcaster, became the original presenter when Dragons' Den launched in 2005. He introduced the entrepreneurs, explained the pitch process and provided continuity between the negotiations inside the den.
He remained associated with the programme through its first eight series. In 2013, BBC Radio 4 broadcaster and journalist Duncan Bannatyne became the presenter, taking over after Davis’s departure from the role. Davis later became particularly known for presenting Newsnight and The Bottom Line.
The presenter is separate from the Dragons themselves. The presenter guides the audience through the programme, whereas the Dragons assess the business proposals and decide whether to make offers.
