Who presented the first 12 series of the BBC television show Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the first 12 series of the BBC television show Dragons' Den.

Davis became the programme's original presenter when the British version began in 2005. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the pitch format, and guide viewers through negotiations with the investors. Unlike the Dragons, he did not decide whether a business received funding.

He remained associated with the programme until 2013, when the presenting role passed to comedian and broadcaster Richard Osman for a later period. Davis is also widely known for his work in BBC news and current-affairs broadcasting, including presenting Newsnight and PM on BBC Radio 4.

A common mix-up is to identify a Dragon as the show's host. The investors sit on the panel, while the presenter manages the studio conversation and provides explanatory links for the audience.
