Who presented the British television programme Dragons' Den from its launch in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the British television programme Dragons' Den from its launch in 2005.

Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who became the programme’s presenter when the UK version began on BBC Two. His role is to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the pitches and guide viewers through the investors’ questions and negotiations.

The presenter is separate from the investor panel, which the programme calls the Dragons. Davis does not normally decide whether an entrepreneur receives investment; the individual Dragons make their own offers and negotiate their terms.

Viewers sometimes confuse the presenter with the investors because both appear throughout an episode. Davis’s broadcasting career also includes work for the BBC’s economics and news programmes, while Dragons' Den became one of his best-known entertainment roles. The UK format itself was adapted from a Japanese business reality concept.
