Who presented Dragon's Den when the BBC programme first launched in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented Dragon's Den when the BBC programme first launched in 2005.

Davis is a British journalist, broadcaster and economist who became the show's original presenter. In that role, he introduced the entrepreneurs, explained the businesses and helped guide viewers through the Dragons' negotiations. His measured presentation style provided a contrast to the often intense exchanges in the pitch room.

Before and after Dragon's Den, Davis was closely associated with BBC news and current-affairs broadcasting. He presented the economics programme The Bottom Line and later became a presenter of BBC Radio 4's PM. He also presented Newsnight for several years.

The presenter is sometimes mistaken for one of the investors because he regularly appeared in the pitch room. However, Davis was the host, not a Dragon, and he did not make investment offers. His hosting role was separate from the entrepreneurs' negotiations.
