Who presented Dragon's Den when the BBC programme began in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented Dragon's Den when the BBC programme began in 2005.

Davis is a British journalist, broadcaster and economist who became the original presenter of the UK version. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the pitch format and provide continuity between the negotiations in the Den.

He presented the programme from its launch until 2013. During that period, the presenting role was separate from the Dragons' role: Davis did not normally invest in the businesses, while the Dragons questioned the entrepreneurs and decided whether to make offers.

Davis is also closely associated with BBC News and the radio programme PM. Because presenters and investor panels changed at different times, viewers sometimes remember a later host as the original presenter. The programme's early episodes, however, were fronted by Davis.
