Who presented Dragon's Den as the programme's first regular host?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented Dragon's Den as the programme's first regular host.

Davis, a BBC journalist and broadcaster, hosted the British series when it launched in 2005. His role was to introduce the entrepreneurs, explain the pitch structure and provide links between the negotiation scenes. The Dragons themselves made the investment decisions, while Davis acted as the programme's presenter and guide.

He remained associated with the show for many series before leaving in 2013. Davis later became especially known for presenting BBC political and news programmes, including Newsnight and the Today programme on BBC Radio 4.

A common error is to name one of the investors as host because the Dragons dominate the screen. Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and Duncan Bannatyne were investors, not presenters. Evan Davis was the programme's original regular presenter.
