Who plays Noah in Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 film Noah?

Russell Crowe plays Noah in Darren Aronofsky’s 2014 film Noah.

Crowe portrays the central biblical figure in the film, which follows Noah’s efforts to build the Ark before a devastating flood. The cast also includes Jennifer Connelly as Naameh, Noah’s wife; Emma Watson as Ila; Logan Lerman as Ham; and Douglas Booth as Shem. Anthony Hopkins appears as Methuselah.

The film is an imaginative dramatic adaptation rather than a literal screen translation of every episode in Genesis. It adds character conflicts, expanded family relationships, and visual interpretations of the animals and the flood. Those additions make the movie distinct from the shorter biblical account on which it is based.

Crowe is an Australian actor known internationally for films including Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, and Master and Commander. His casting as Noah is one of the film’s most easily verifiable production facts, while Aronofsky’s role was directing the project.
